Russia gearing up to be first world power to insert ground forces into Syria

Prophecy Sign:  The Land of Magog, (Russia??)

Debate exists between prophecy scholars as to the identity of the Land of Magog which is military power from the northernmost parts north of Israel.  This power will align with a host of nations from the Middle-East who will attempt to invade Israel at a future date in the what is called the Gog/Magog war of Ezekiel 38/39. Some observers believe this military power to be none other than present day Russia. (others contend Turkey).  There is no doubt that Russia has had a long tradition of supporting the enemies of Israel in any confrontation fought since the reestablishment of the Jewish State in 1948.  It would not be a stretch to suggest this support will continue on into the future.

“Son of man, prophesy against Gog and say: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against you, Gog, chief prince of Meshek and Tubal. I will turn you around and drag you along. I will bring you from the far north and send you against the mountains of Israel. Ezekiel 39:1-2 NIV

Russia gearing up to be first world power to insert ground forces into Syria
Despite strong denials from Moscow, Russian airborne troops are preparing to land in Syria to fight Islamic State forces. The surprise attack on Monday, Aug. 31, by ISIS forces on the Qadam district of southern Damascus, in which they took over parts of the district - and brought ISIS forces the closest that any Syrian anti-Assad group has ever been to the center of the Syrian capital - is expected to accelerate the Russian military intervention. Moscow is certainly not ready to endanger the position of President Bashar Assad or his rule in Damascus, and views it as a red line that cannot be crossed. If Russia intervenes militarily in this way, Russia will be the first country from outside the Middle East to send ground forces into the Syrian civil war.

Russian jets in Syrian skies
Russian fighter pilots are expected to begin arriving in Syria in the coming days, and will fly their Russian air force fighter jets and attack helicopters against ISIS and rebel-aligned targets within the failing state. According to Western diplomats, a Russian expeditionary force has already arrived in Syria and set up camp in an Assad-controlled airbase. The base is said to be in area surrounding Damascus, and will serve, for all intents and purposes, as a Russian forward operating base. In the coming weeks thousands of Russian military personnel are set to touch down in Syria, including advisors, instructors, logistics personnel, technical personnel, members of the aerial protection division, and the pilots who will operate the aircraft.
