Prophecy Sign: Increasing earthquake and volcanic activity in diverse places
A handful of large earthquakes this week remind us that earthquakes would be on the rise during the last days and would occur across the globe in totally unexpected regions, (diverse). And those areas that generally get lots of earthquakes can expect even larger ones to come.
California has increasingly powerful earthquakes to look forward to
For the past century or so, California has been spared a lot of major earthquakes. In the next 30 years, that will probably change. The U.S. Geological Survey has released revised predictions for the seismic activity that Californians can expect over the next few decades. And while the USGS found that the frequency of smaller earthquakes has gone down, the risk of a significant earthquake -- of at least a magnitude 8.0 -- has gone up slightly. "We are fortunate that seismic activity in California has been relatively low over the past century. But we know that tectonic forces are continually tightening the springs of the San Andreas fault system, making big quakes inevitable,” Tom Jordan, director of the Southern California Earthquake Center and a co-author of the study, said in a statement.
