Pope Francis hints at Catholic Church rethink on gay civil unions

Prophecy Sign:  The falling away from true biblical faith

There are likely many, many Christians that would agree with the Pope when he says that Gays should not be allowed to enter into marriage but perhaps can unite in a civil union.  It's a slippery slope suggestion, for really, what is the difference between a marriage contract and a civil union contract?  The two forms result in two people living together as a united couple under the law.  And once the idea has been accepted by the church, then it would be only a matter of time before the "civil union" terminology would be jettisoned in favour of simply "marriage" and become the defacto position of the Church.  We believe this sweet talk is nothing more than a deception to eradicate the doctrines of true biblical Christianity.

At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other,  and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Matthew 24:10 NIV

Pope Francis hints at Catholic Church rethink on gay civil unions
Pope Francis has hinted that the Catholic Church could recognise gay civil unions and called for women to have a greater role in the church in an interview that marks his first year as pontiff. In a wide-ranging interview with Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, Pope Francis reiterated that gay marriage could not be accepted by the Catholic Church. ‘‘Marriage is between a man and a woman, ’’he said. But he left the door open for the church to acknowledge other formally recognised relationships that would provide economic security and healthcare.  ‘‘Secular states want to justify civil unions to regulate different situations of cohabitation, pushed by the demand to regulate economic aspects between persons, such as ensuring health care,’’ he said. ‘‘It is about pacts of cohabiting of various natures, of which I wouldn’t know how to list the different ways. ‘‘One needs to see the different cases and evaluate them in their variety.’’

Pope Francis: Church could support civil unions
Pope Francis reaffirmed the Catholic Church's opposition to gay marriage on Wednesday, but suggested in a newspaper interview that it could support some types of civil unions. The Pope reiterated the church's longstanding teaching that "marriage is between a man and a woman." However, he said, "We have to look at different cases and evaluate them in their variety."
