Syrian Christians Flee Homeland as Government Forces, Rebels Infiltrate City

Prophecy Sign:  Increasing persecution of Christians

Radical Islam is sweeping through the Middle-East and making life a terror for Christians and moderate Muslims alike. The vast majority of Muslims just want to live their daily lives in peace and have no desire to take over the world, but radical Islamists rule the day and have the power to take over governments and implement Shari-ah law, killing anyone that gets in to way.  The gospel of John has an interesting prophecy which seems to apply to radical Islam quite well.

They will put you out of the synagogue; in fact, the time is coming when anyone who kills you will think they are offering a service to God. John 16:2 NIV

Please pray for the Christians of the Middle-East.  Their lives are in peril and the national government of the West seemingly could care less, (see our other blog entry today about this).

Syrian Christians Flee Homeland as Government Forces, Rebels Infiltrate City
Syrian Christians have fled the village of Maaloula as rebels and Syrian goverment forces fight for control over the mountainous village. Syrian government forces have launched an offensive to take back a predominantly Christian village from the al-Qaeda linked rebel groups currently controlling it, Reuters reported today.

Syrian village is 'liberated' by rebels... who then forced Christians to convert to Islam
Terrified Christians claim Syrian rebels ordered them to convert to Islam on pain of death when they ‘liberated’ their ancient village. Opposition forces, including fighters linked to Al Qaeda, gained temporary control of the Christian village of Maaloula after fighting with regime forces. The reports have reignited fears about western support for the rebel groups, which are increasingly being infiltrated by Islamic extremists. One Maaloula resident said the rebels, many of whom had beards and shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’ (God is great), attacked Christian homes and churches shortly after moving into the village. ‘They shot and killed people. I heard gunshots and then I saw three bodies lying in the middle of a street in the old quarters of the village. Where is President Obama to see what has befallen us?’

Syrian Rebels Execute Christian Villagers
Syrian rebel fighters apparently executed three Christians fleeing the fighting in Maaloula this week, Britain's Sky News reported. Hundreds of Christians held a funeral in Damascus for the men, who were cousins. Sky News reports the men were trying to escape the Christian town of Maaloula, which has been under attack by rebel troops. The men reportedly were killed by forces with the al Qaeda linked Jabha al-Nour. Mourners say two of the victims had their throats cut and another was shot.

Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood to Coptic Christians: Convert to Islam, or pay ‘jizya’ tax
The Muslim Brotherhood and its supporters have began forcing the roughly 15,000 Christian Copts of Dalga village in Egypt to pay a jizya tax as indicated in Koran 9:29, author and translator Raymond Ibrahim reported on Sunday. Jizya is the money, or tribute, “that conquered non-Muslims historically had to pay to their Islamic overlords ‘with willing submission and while feeling themselves subdued’ to safeguard their existence,” Mr. Ibrahim explained. According to Fr. Yunis Shawqi, who spoke yesterday to Dostor reporters in Dalga, all Copts in the village, “without exception,” are being forced to pay the tax.

Moroccan Christian Jailed for 'Shaking the Faith of a Muslim'
A Moroccan Christian man has been jailed for two and a half years and fined for evangelizing, World Watch Monitor reports. Mohamed el Baldi, 34, from the town of Ain Aicha, was ordered at a September 3 court hearing to pay 5000 dirhams ($600) for "shaking the faith of a Muslim." He was arrested after his house was raided on August 28 and items linked to his faith, such as his Bible, were confiscated. Propagating Christianity is prohibited under Article 220 of the Moroccan Penal Code.
