Putin: Israel's nuclear weapons just make it a target

Prophecy Sign:  In defense of Jerusalem

Some estimates suggest that Israel may have as many as 80 nuclear warheads in its arsenal, which has acted as a huge deterrent to any multinational Islamic invasion attempt.  The Islamic world (along with Russia), would love to see Israel disarm for obvious reasons - Israel would become easy prey.

Bible prophecy seems to suggest that Israel may indeed disarm her nuclear arsenal sometime in the future, as we are told that the armies of the world will capture Jerusalem and ransack the city.  One would think that a nuclear armed Israel would never let such a thing happen, that she would launch her arsenal in a last ditched attempt to crush any invasion attempts.

So how would such a disarmament occur?  Perhaps as part of a future peace deal between Israel and the 'many', (Daniel 9:27), which presumably may include a provision to give up her nuclear arsenal in return for peace and perhaps a corner of the Temple Mount for a new Jewish Temple.  Just a thought.

I will gather all the nations to Jerusalem to fight against it; the city will be captured, the houses ransacked, and the women raped. Half of the city will go into exile, but the rest of the people will not be taken from the city. Zechariah 14:2 NIV

Putin: Israel's nuclear weapons just make it a target
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that Israel’s alleged nuclear weapons stockpile only serves to make the Jewish state “a target” and creates “foreign policy problems.” Putin’s comments, reported by AFP, came in response to questions from reporters on the US and Russia-brokered deal to put Syria’s chemical weapons arsenal under international supervision. According to AFP, Putin said that Syria had developed chemical weapons “as an alternative to the nuclear weapons of Israel.” The Russian president claimed that “the technical advantage of Israel – we need to say this directly – is such that it doesn’t need nuclear weapons. Israel is already in a technical military sense several heads above the countries in the region.” Putin added that “nuclear weapons just make it a target. They just create foreign policy problems.”

Arab states call on Israel to join global anti-nuclear weapons treaty
Arab states will push ahead with a bid to single out Israel for criticism over its assumed atomic arsenal at this week's UN nuclear agency meeting, despite Western pressure to refrain, a senior representative said on Friday. Frustrated over the indefinite postponement last year of an international conference on banning atomic arms in the region, Arab states have proposed a non-binding resolution expressing concern about "Israeli nuclear capabilities". If adopted at the annual member state gathering of the UN International Atomic Energy Agency, it would call on Israel to join a global anti-nuclear weapons treaty and place its nuclear facilities under IAEA monitoring. Diplomats expect a close vote.
