AIDS-like disease found in Asians, trigger unknown

Prophecy Sign:  Pestilence and Plagues

Disease outbreaks of both old and new are popping up all over.  From Cholera to Ebola, from West Nile to a new AIDS like disease, many people are dying in both first world and third world nations.  While this type of news is horrible to hear of in itself, it's nothing compared to what is warned of for the period to come, (known as the Tribulation), when millions will perish from pestilence and plagues.

When the Lamb opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, “Come!” I looked, and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth. Revelation 6:7-8 NIV

AIDS-like disease found in Asians, trigger unknown
A mysterious new disease causes AIDS-like symptoms in Asians even though they are not infected with HIV, a research has found. The disease damages patients’ immune systems, but is not contagious. The illness leaves patients unable to fight off germs. Some patients have died of overwhelming infections, including some Asians now living in the US, said Dr. Sarah Browne, a scientist at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, who led the study of the disease. Researchers are calling this new disease an "adult-onset" immunodeficiency syndrome because it develops later in life and they don't know why or how. The study was conducted in Thailand and Taiwan, where most of the cases have been found starting from 2004. Their report was published in the New England Journal of Medicine on August 23.

Deadly Ebola outbreak: Nine killed in DR Congo
Nine people have died from an outbreak of the Ebola virus in the Democratic Republic of Congo, only weeks after the virulent disease was declared “under control” in neighboring Uganda, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported. The new cases of the Ebola virus were detected near the country’s northwestern town of Isiro, the Congolese health minister said. A group of specialists from various international organizations – the WHO, Doctors Without Borders and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention – are working in the country alongside local doctors. They are conducting a detailed epidemiological investigation, and are attempting to quarantine people who may have been in contact with those infected. The new outbreak comes just weeks after another Ebola epidemic in neighboring Uganda – roughly 30 miles from its border with DR Congo – was declared to be over.
West Nile outbreak largest ever in U.S.
The recent West Nile virus outbreak is the largest ever seen in the United States, according to new numbers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The number of cases so far this year is the highest recorded through August since the disease was first detected in the United States in 1999. As of Tuesday, 38 states had reported human infections. The cases reported to the CDC as of Tuesday total 1,118, including 41 deaths. That number rose to at least 43 on Thursday with deaths reported in Arkansas and Michigan.

Sierra Leone cholera spreads, death toll hits 220
Sierra Leone's health ministry said Thursday that deaths from a cholera outbreak had reached 220, affecting over 12,000 people in the west African nation, which is struggling to curb the disease. "Some 12,140 people are affected nationwide in 10 of 12 districts," the health ministry's director of disease prevention and control, Amara Jambai, told journalists, saying the figure included cases recorded up to Wednesday. This is two more districts than were reported last week when the death toll stood at 176, prompting President Ernest Koroma to declare the outbreak a "public health emergency". "The outbreak has peaked mainly in slum areas in the capital due to poor sanitation including areas without latrines or people drinking contaminated water," Jambai said.
